2009 Washington DC Dragon Boat Festival: Races, part 2
The races are really what it is all about, and this year for the first time I was able to ride in one of the chase boats to get some shots from different angles and from much closer to the crews. I pretty much lost track of teams and so will just identify the boats by color.

The eight dragon boats used in the Washington DC Dragon Boat Festival were donated by enterprises and organizations on Taiwan. You can see the names of the donors on the boats. Each boat is 45 feet long, including the head and tail, 45 inches wide and 45 inches deep. They are made of glass reinforced polyester and weigh 1550 pounds. The boats are equipped with a drum and steering paddle. They are crewed by 20 paddlers, a steerman or steerwoman in the rear and a drummer in front. The donors are: Evergreen Marine Corporation; the National Women's League of the Repulbic of China; Shin Kong Life Insurance Company; Mitac Incorporated; the Chinese Petroleum Company; Taiwan Industrial Bank (Pacific Holdings); Taiwan Bureau of Tourism; and Four Star International.
